Homeowner associations generally have extensive landscaping to maintain which includes, planting beds. Part of every planting bed should include an element of barkdust, barkchips, or barkmulch. This miracle soil amendment offers a number of benefits:

A two inch deep base of barkdust generally lasts 2-3 years. Wind and sun will eventually deplete it but adding another inch each year will renew it nicely, giving the grounds a well maintained look. Barkdust can be applied professionally by blowing, by hand, or a combination of both. With blowing, it is important to uncover small plants and flowers following installation.

Barkdust is purchased by the "unit", which measures 7.4 cubic yards. A unit covers about 1000 square feet of area two inches deep. If you know the total area to be covered, you can easily compute the total units it will take.
