Swimming Pools

All swimming pools require local town approvals that need to be verified by the client. All swimming pools need to have fences surrounding them to prevent any unattended children from falling into the water and drowning. Also, special homeowner's insurance is needed with swimming pools. This is due to the increased liability of having a pool on the property. There are two types of swimming pool installations:  out-of-ground and in‑ground. (I guess that's pretty obvious. Unless of course you know someone who happens to have an underground pool at their house).

2200 - If you're getting ready to replace your countertops and are bored with tile, granite, and the other brand name materials because they're beginning to all look alike, then concrete may be for you. Many homeowners, particularly in high-end homes, are choosing concrete for their kitchen countertops for a variety of reasons. "Concrete is versatile, durable, and most importantly, you can do just about anything to it to make it your own," said Jim Peterson, president and founder of www.ConcreteNetwork.com, a comprehensive web site for concrete contractors and home building professionals that offers a "find-a-contractor" directory. You can select your own color, texture, finish, and edge, he said. And you can make your countertop even more personal by adorning it with seashells, colored glass, broken tile - virtually anything can be laid in the form and molded into the concrete. "Homeowners love being their own designers," Peterson said. Few materials are as versatile as concrete, he said. You can mold concrete into any shape, color it to match virtually any hue, and you can make it smooth or rough. Its versatility lends to a range of design styles from contemporary to classic. Check the area around the pool for any tripping hazards. Check the pool walls for any leaks, cracks or bulging sections. If it's winter time and the outdoor air temperature gets below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, then the pool must be properly winterized. When water freezes it expands and as a result, this can crack the walls of a pool if proper winter maintenance has not been taken care of. If you have any doubts about the pool, just tell the client to call a swimming pool contractor for further evaluations. I don't get involved in evaluating pools and pool equipment, such as, heaters, filters and pumps. If you want to charge extra for this service, feel free to do so. But make sure you know what you're doing before you start telling clients that you're qualified to evaluate pools and pool equipment. You don't want to give anyone the wrong impression just so that you can charge more for the inspection.
