House Inspection Checklist

1) This is a properly installed water main line. The electrical grounding cable is clamped on both sides of the meter.

2) The bell shaped water pressure reducing valve indicates there is strong water pressure from the street main water line.

3) There are shut-off valves on each side of the meter for easy replacement of the meter. The lever shut-off valve (upper right) is more reliable than the knob type valve.

4) The water meter.

Electrical lines, conduits, and meters must be securely fastened to the side of the house. Tree branches need to be pruned away from the wires periodically. Three electrical lines at the service entrance head indicate 110/220 volts in this house. The "U" shape in the wires is called a drip loop. This is used to keep rainwater from entering the electrical conduit.
