There are several problems with this exterior deck support post.

1) The metal bracket is not sturdy enough to support the post where it meets the deck girder beam. Proper metal brackets need to be installed.

2) The base of this post is resting on a 2 x 6" wood board. This board will eventually rot and the deck will settle unevenly. Metal brackets are also needed at the base to properly secure the deck post to the concrete foundation.

Clearly these deck support posts are unsafe! This is a high deck and if it collapses, then someone is going to get hurt or killed!! The posts have been installed improperly. The base of the wood is not resting evenly on the concrete foundation. The second post in the photo is off center on the concrete foundation. Metal brackets are needed to securely fasten deck supports to the concrete base.
