Malcolm Robinson's email to John T. Reed about the outside veer option
Here's an email I got from a youth coach who says he has had success with the outside veer option.

One more play I intended to mention with which we enjoyed quite a bit of success is the outside veer dive. We simply run a dive back (from a variety of sets) at the outside heel of the playside OT. The QB opens playside and attacks down the LOS to the mesh point. We teach a 2 step lateral move by the QB with a 3rd step with some depth to engage the dive back and to create a short ride.
We, of course leave the dive key unblocked and allow the TE to block inside - usually down on the near LB - or to base him if we would face a 53 look. At times we will flex the TE to get more read time for the QB as the DEs always split with the TE.
Most, if not all of the time, its a give to the dive back. We teach the QB that only a direct attack by the DE on the mesh point would be a pull and keep for him.
The beauty of the play is that it is a super quick hitter and we only have to block 2, maybe 3 defenders near the POA. Obviously if we get the dive back past the LB level a block on the near corner might give us a score.
We do need a quick back, but he need not be a big bruiser. If we can get a bigger guy with a quick first step or two, we can usually make a lot of hay with this simple attack.
We sometimes have the luxury of a QB who can run a little, and other things will open up if the defense loads up on the dive man.

[Note. I had added the waggle pass to my list of good youth plays about two weeks before I got this letter. Mr. Robinson apparently missed it.

CONSUMER WARNING NOTICE: I recently saw Russ Whitney on a late night TV infomercial and then attended one of his "free" seminars. Unfortunately I believed all of their LIES and FRAUDULENT CLAIMS and I paid thousands of dollars to go to his "training camps". Needless to say I was clearly ripped off, cheated and lied to by Russ Whitney and his employees (band of thieves). My mistake was not searching the Internet to find out more about Russ Whitney and his company's HORRIBLE reputation for fraud, deception and illegal activities. Had I searched online I would have found out about THOUSANDS of customers being cheated, HUNDREDS of investigations by the Attorney General into the fraud of Russ Whitney and his company's, and that Russ Whitney himself is a CONVICTED VIOLENT FELON and spent years in PRISON. I saved the cached pages from the major search engines of the John Reed lawsuit with Russell Whitney and the TRUTH and FACTS that Reed discovered during his investigation of Whitney. I am posting this information on real estate discussion boards so other people do NOT get cheated and ripped off like I did.
