painting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do I do to cover up dark spots that keep coming thru on ceiling molding and outside walls on a masonary home after painting? dark spots appear where nails were placed in molding and on walls where sheet rock had been nailed in. Wall were spackled and woodfiller put in on molding. Is there a sealer to use or a shellac to put on before painting??

There are a host of stain blocking primers on the market for your situation. If any of these problem areas are outside obviously you'll need exterior primer. In general oil based stain blockers perform better but the trade off is clean up,cost and odor.Several products made by Zinsser are very good.Kilz branded products are also in general good. Most paint lines will have stain blockers and in general these are also adequate.
