Re-roof during the summer, fall, or winter
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,
Quick question for the group... I have a 25 year old home with the original SHAKE roofing material on it. I do not have any leaks at this time, however, I know that it is just a matter of time before I do have an issue. For this reason and the fact that in California, insurance companies dont want this roof on your home, I want to replace it.
Since the roof isnt leaking, I can do this at any time. I have heard people say that you can get better pricing during different times of the year. Is there any truth to this?? If so, what time of the year would I get the best pricing??
Final question is on gutter treatment. The house currently does not have gutters. I have received some quotes for 88 ft. of 7 inch gutters for $650 bucks installed... however, I am considering doing that part myself. The question is, is it worth the hassle, or am I better off just letting the "pro's" do there thing with the gutters!
Thanks, Ron |

Roof Anytime
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For your climate roofs can be done anytime...
But anyone deciding they can install gutters for less than professional seamless installers is self deluding.... |

Thanks for your thoughts... I guess my question is, is there an advantage to me and a consumer to have my roof redone during certain times of the years?? Is there a slow season for roofing where the bids become more competitive to keep their guys working??
Thanks, Ron |

There are slow seasons, but like Homebuild said, in your region there may not be one. I believe you have decent roofing weather year-round. Roofers tend to wind down a little in the holiday season partly because they can, and partly because there's not a large amount of homeowners that want their roofs replaced during that time. The main roofing season picks up around March and goes through October in most areas.
However, it just depends on how much work is going on.
It is August right now, a PRIME part of the roofing season, yet, I know some areas where the roofers are BEGGING for business, just because there's not much roofing going on.
So, to answer your question, there is no black-and-white answer.
Every region is different.
