What is the difference between:

1. Gross Area
2. Bldg/Living Area
3. Lot Area
4. Adjusted Area (Total)

Are the definitions "standard" for a given county, say LA in California or perhaps different in town hall to another?

Thanks

Some town halls and areas may use different terms or definitions. There are no set standards nationwide but I'll try to give you relevant answers for many areas:

1. Gross Area - This is probably refering to the gross living area. The GLA in a house refers to the square footage in the livable areas that are "above grade," which doesn't include the basement or attic areas.

2. Bldg/Living Area - This probably refers to the Livable Areas of the house as opposed to the entire square footage of the building (including livable and non-livable areas).

3. Lot Area - This refers to the size of the property/lot of the site.

4. Adjusted Area (Total) - I'm not sure what they're referring to with this. You'll have to check at town hall or an appraiser in your local areal.
