Atlanta, Detroit, NYC Lead Nation in Residents Selling Homes on Their Own Denver ranks as fastest-growing market in ForSaleByOwner.com's annual survey
RISMEDIA, August 1, 2006—Atlanta homeowners are among the most independent in the United States -- with more choosing to sell their homes without a real estate broker than homeowners in any other city, according to a closely-watched annual survey of home-selling habits released yesterday by ForSaleByOwner.com.
Of all the homes listed on ForSaleByOwner.com last year, 3.8% came from Atlanta. This marks the first time that Atlanta, which ranked No. 3 in 2004 and 2003, tops the survey. The Atlanta market saw a 71% increase last year in homeowners choosing to sell their homes on their own on the site. Detroit, No.1 in last year's survey, dropped to the No. 2 spot this year, with 3.7% of independent home sellers in the country. The Motor City was followed by New York at No. 3 (2.2%) and Dallas-Fort Worth at No. 4, (2.1%).
The survey also reveals that Denver, at No. 5 (1.9%), is the fast-growing market for independent home sellers. The Mile High City experienced a 166% increase in growth, catapulting it onto the annual survey for the first time since it began in 2003. Dallas-Fort Worth is the second fastest-growing market, boasting a 119% increase in independent home sellers.
Chicago (No. 6), Cleveland (No. 7), Houston (No. 8), Indianapolis (No. 9), and Cincinnati (No. 10) round out the top ten list of cities with the most people selling their homes without a broker.
