| PORTLAND, OR -- Home builders can now turn to a new publication from Western Wood Products Association to learn about how to deal with typical lumber framing problems. Western Lumber Framing Basics is a compilation of practical recommendations aimed at solving common framing errors that not only cause problems with building code officials, but also affect the structure itself. The guide contains illustrated drawings of floor, wall and roof components plus solutions to common errors in frame openings, joist hangers and nails, blocking, holes and notching, cantilevers, load paths, birdsmouth cuts, roof loads, rafter ties, ridge beams and trusses. “Builders already face the challenge of finding trained, experienced framers,” said WWPA Information Services Director Butch Bernhardt. “Framing Basics will help builders educate their framing crews and avoid costly problems on the job. These time-tested solutions have been developed through years of work by WWPA with framers, contractors and code officials.” Printed versions of Western Lumber Framing Basics can be ordered for $1.75 per copy from the Literature Store on the WWPA web site (http://www.wwpa.org/store/product1.asp?SID=3&Product_ID=94) or can be downloaded in an Adobe Acrobat PDF format free of charge. Western Wood Products Association represents lumber manufacturers in the 12 Western states and Alaska. Based in Portland, WWPA provides product support, business information, quality standards and technical services to mills. |
