A collaboration from NAHB and the NAHB Research Center

Green Building, the environmentally friendly approach to land development and housing construction, is one of the most significant developments in home building in the past decade. It is nothing less than a quiet revolution in the way that new homes and communities are planned and constructed.

Highlighting the green building advancements and home builders' achievements is a new publication from the National Association of Home Builders and the NAHB Research Center entitled Building Greener, Building Better: The Quiet Revolution that outlines this next wave in home building and land development.

Among the topics covered in the 24 page publication are:

  • Green Building and Community Planning: The Link to Smart Growth

  • Green Building Trends in Land Development and Site Design

  • Urban Infill Redevelopment Case Study on Denver, Colorado's Elitch Gardens

  • Green Building and Multifamily Construction

  • Brownfields Reform

  • Water Resources and Water Quality

  • Building with Trees

  • Energy and Environmental Advances in Housing Construction (cutaway drawing)

  • The NAHB-DOE Voluntary Energy Efficiency Program Initiative

  • The Future of Green Building: The PATH Initiative

The publication also includes case studies on wetlands, open space and storm water management collaborations developed by the Ohio, Connecticut and Alabama state HBAs, respectively.
