Central Oregon, Cascade Mountain-Area Communities Report Housing Sales Brisk As Mountain Air by Blanche Evans
Realtors in the Cascade Mountains area of Central Oregon say the spectacular views, mountain air, and fun outdoor activities contribute to homeowner growth in Sisters, Sunriver, and Powell Butte. Sisters "Sisters, Oregon lies in the eastern foothills of the Central Oregon Cascade Mountains," says Realtor Richard A Dyer, "It has a small town, rural feeling, a four-seasons climate and year-round recreational opportunities. Nearly 80 percent of the land in the area is U.S. National Forest and Bureau of Land Management public lands. Enjoy skiing, hiking, golf, fishing, hunting, hiking, tennis, water sports and more in the nearby area. About the market, Dyer explains, "The market has been very active with limited inventories of available properties. Average sale price for 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1,850 sq. ft. homes over the past 12 months was $324,597 compared to $282,191 for the previous 12-month period. Average sale price for lots under 1 acre for the past 12 months was $156,916 compared to $105,055 for the previous 12 months. Mortgage rates remain attractive and there are many cash sales in the market area. A large percentage of sales are attributable to investment buyers and vacation home owners." Sunriver "Even with the current increase in interest rates, sales in Sunriver have been steady," says Realtor Ron Tolley. "Current inventory of homes is still below average, with homes under 300K below the same period last year. Homes, condos and land in the heart of central Oregon with golf, world-class skiing, the Deschutes River, tennis, bike paths, Canoeing, rafting, shopping, fishing, and sight-seeing offer something everyone!" Powell Butte "Probably one of the friendliest places you'd ever want to live," says Realtor Mark E. Reiger, "the cozy little community of Powell Butte is located at the foot of the Powell Butte range with magnificent views of the Three Sisters and all of her companions. As a matter of fact, there's a number of locations where you can see nine mountains from one spot. "This quiet little community in West Crook county has a population close to 2000 and boasts one store, a grade school, a church, and a new feed store," explains Rieger. "Located between Redmond to the west and Prineville to the east, Powell Butte residents depended mostly on ranching and farming to provide income for many years. A new addition to the Powell Butte area will be Central Oregon's newest resort called Brasada Ranch. Construction on this exciting new resort community will begin in early 2005." |
