Find Out How Your Members of Congress Voted on Key Housing Issues

Members of NAHB can now track how their U.S. representative and senators voted on legislation of particular importance to the nation’s housing industry.

During every two-year congressional cycle, lawmakers on Capitol Hill typically consider a host of issues that affect the building industry. The NAHB Federal Government Affairs Committee and BUILD-PAC, the association’s political action committee, designate decisions on legislation that is especially important as “key votes.”

During the current 108th Congress, key votes have occurred on a number of bills:

  • H.R. 4281, “Small Business Health Fairness Act of 2004.” This bill — which was supported by NAHB and passed by the House — amends the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) to provide for establishment and governance of association health plans.
  • S. AMDT. 3129 to S. 1637, “Jumpstart Our Business Strength (JOBS) Act.” This amendment — opposed by NAHB and defeated by a wide margin in the Senate — would strike provisions relating to the energy tax package, including energy efficiency home tax credits.
  • H.R. 2728, “Occupational Safety and Health Small Business Day in Court Act of 2004.” This bill — supported by NAHB and passed by the House — gives the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission (OSHRC) additional flexibility to make exceptions to the 15-day deadline for contesting citations.
  • H.R. 2731, “Occupational Safety and Health Small Employer Access to Justice Act of 2004.” This bill — supported by NAHB and passed by the House — requires OSHA to pay court costs when an employer successfully contests a citation.

To find out where their federal lawmakers voted on these and other key measures dating back to the 106th Congress, NAHB members can go to www.nahb.org/keyvotes.
