Getting Organized to Build Your Own Home - 8/2/2005 - Expert Real Estate Advice

Getting Organized to Build Your Own Home

Hope your summer is going great! The topic of this newsletter is getting organized to build your own home.
I know this may not be the most popular of themes, but it is a very important aspect of home building. By nature I am not very organized, if it wasn’t for my wife Michaela, I would have been sunk building our home. She is the Queen of organization!

From the very beginning she was setting up files on every aspect of the process. She had a file on almost everything. There is a mountain of paperwork when you build your own home. You need to save everything, and file it where you can find it.

Michaela started with an expandable folder that had A to Z tabs and then as a category emerged she set up a permanent file. She then had a special filing cabinet just for home building. I still go to it and find needed receipts and paperwork to this day.

The point here is set up a system that works for you and stick with it. If you are just considering building your own home you need to start saving all your ideas and brochures for building materials, appliances, fixtures, and whatever you want to put in your home now.

This probably goes without saying, but you need to add all your research websites (like Build Your Own Home :) ) to your favorites in categories that make sense to you for easy reference later.

If you do not have a system you are going to miss important details and regret it. I had Michaela there every step of the way squirreling the paperwork away for me, so I would have it when I needed it. You may not be so lucky!

I would like to thank you for making www.Buld-YourOwn-Home.com one of the most popular sites on the internet for DIY Home Construction.

All the best,

George Stevens
