Glass Block With “Wings” Makes Mortar Joint Virtually Disappear

04/14/2004
The world of glass block takes flight with the launch of an exciting new product: PEGASUS --the glass block with wings.

The “wings” of PEGASUS --created by extending the sidewall without changing the face size -- allow the visible mortar joint to be reduced to less than 1/8” (2mm) - yet still retain all the strength of a regular wide-joint installation. These small joints, when combined with the option of a metalized edge coat, give walls of PEGASUS the unique appearance of a CONTINOUS GLASS SURFACESM by making the mortar between the block visually “disappear”!

This watershed product is the result of developing a nearly 17” (42cm) square faced glass block - for renowned architect Renzo Piano’s Maison Hermes project in Tokyo. Eventually, PEGASUS style sidewalls will be implemented across the entire VETROARREDO product line – allowing even more flexibility for mortared installations.

VETROARREDO® North America’s parent company, VETROARREDO SEDIVER S.p.A., is headquartered in Florence, Italy and is the largest manufacturer of glass block in the world.
