HVAC Distribution Systems Links
HVAC distribution systems can have a substantial effect on homeowner health and HVAC system efficiency. For ductwork located outside of conditioned space, research indicates that 20 to 35 percent of the energy supplied to them is lost through a combination of air leakage and conduction. Unhealthy conditions can result from mold propagation within ducts and from ducts in unconditioned spaces transporting potentially unhealthy air into the conditioned envelope. These and other factors of distribution system design are addressed in this section.
