The beauty of a vapor compression cycle lies in its ability to heat or cool by "pumping" heat into or out of a home. The most common type of heat pump is an air source heat pump, which uses outdoor air as a heat source in winter and a heat sink in summer. A more efficient form is a ground source heat pump, which uses the temperate ground as a heat source in winter and a heat sink in summer.
