Howard Hanna Selected as Exclusive Agency for Winning Riverfront Design Approximately 700 new residences to be built in Pittsburgh
RISMEDIA, July 17, 2006—On Monday, July 10th, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announced the winner for its international Cultural Riverfront Development and Design Competition to develop six acres in downtown Pittsburgh bounded by Fort Duquesne Boulevard and Penn Avenue, and between Seventh and Ninth Streets. The Trust announced the selection of the RiverParc team which includes Howard Hanna Real Estate Services as the exclusive marketing agent and sales specialist for the project.
Approximately 700 new residences to be built within seven new residential buildings consisting of mid- and high-rise condominiums and a street of townhomes. This international design competition started last summer and drew more than 100 architects and developers. The list was narrowed to three in December. Groundbreaking for the residences begins in mid-2007.
Led by master developer Concord Eastridge Inc. of Washington D.C and Phoenix and world-class design team headed by Behnisch Architekten of Stukkart, Germany, including architects Alliance of Toronto; master planner Gehl Architects of Copenhagen, Denmark; and WTW Architects of Pittsburgh, this $460 million project is Pittsburgh’s largest downtown residential development to date and “without equal in the United States today”.
Concord Eastridge will open a Pittsburgh office and the development team will also include WTW Architects of Pittsburgh and Turner Construction of Pittsburgh as general contractor.
Approximately 159,000 square feet of retail space will be located on the ground floors throughout the development. A four-star hotel, performing arts venue, new parking structures, outside cafes, gardens and fountains, art galleries and an overall showcase of innovative design, will provide additional amenities for this wonderful new area in Pittsburgh’s downtown.
A critical component of this project is the intention for all buildings to be LEED-certified, environmentally engineered buildings. This master-planned district will be one of the first LEED-ND certified neighborhood districts.
