Mortgage Rates Head Down by Scott Davis
Mortgage rates continued their retreat on Monday while stock and bond prices were mixed. According to Bank Rate Monitor, the 30-year fixed rate mortgage average dropped to 7.86%, down a quarter point in less than two weeks. The 15-year fixed rate and one-year adjustable rate fell to 7.54% and 6.63% respectively. The 30-year jumbo rate edged down to 8.23%. Treasury yields moved mostly lower, with the benchmark 10-year note falling to a 5-month low of 5.79% and the 30-year bond ticking down to 5.68%. Stock market volatility and the divergence of blue chips and tech stocks continued as the Dow Jones Industrial Average managed a 75.08 point gain while the Nasdaq composite tumbled 258.25 points to 4,188.20.
