Mortgage Rates Mixed by Scott Davis
Stock and bond prices rallied on Thursday while mortgage rates drifted. According to Bank Rate Monitor's daily mortgage survey, the 30-year fixed and one-year adjustable rates fell to 7.99% and 6.62% respectively. The 15-year fixed rate climbed to 7.63%, while the 30-year jumbo rate was unchanged at 8.29%. The rally in bond prices was contained by a late surge in stocks, but the bellwether 30-year Treasury bond held onto enough gains to drop its yield down to 6.15%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average continued its recovery Thursday, gaining 154.20 points to close at 10,010.73. The Nasdaq composite jumped 149.60 points to a record 5,046.86.
