Despite bearish comments from Fed Chairman Greenspan, the long bond managed to gain ground on Thursday while stocks were mixed. According to Bank Rate Monitor's daily survey of mortgage lenders, the 30-year fixed and 15-year adjustable rate averages remained at 8.14% and 7.78% respectively. The 30-year Jumbo rate also stayed steady at 8.43% while the one-year adjustable rate dropped to 6.63%. While most Treasury issues traded down, the benchmark 30-year bond managed a small gain, dropping its yield to 6.22%.
