Mortgage Rates Steady - 1/6/2000 - Mortgage Loan Refinance Debt Equity

Mortgage Rates Steady

by Scott Davis

Treasury bonds took another pounding on Wednesday while stocks ended mixed after a rocky start.

According to Bank Rate Monitor, the average 30-year fixed and one-year adjustable rate mortgage were unchanged at 7.90% and 6.49% respectively. The 15-year fixed rate ticked up to 7.52%.

Tuesday's gains in Treasury bonds were wiped out as the yield on the benchmark 30-year issue jumped to 6.33%. A jump in November factory orders spooked traders.

Stocks recovered from big early losses, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing up 124.72 points. The Nasdaq composite ended up losing only 24.15 points to close at 3877.54.
