Mortgage Rates Tick Up

Although average mortgage rates edged up on Friday, they remain near lows for the year.

According to Bank Rate Monitor, the average 30-year fixed rate mortgage climbed to 7.73% while the 15-year fixed rate rose to 7.51%. The one year adjustable rate stood at 7.22% and the 30-year jumbo rate crept down to 8.12%.

Treasury bond prices declined on Friday amid mixed economic news. The yield on both the 10-year note and 30-year bond ticked up 2 basis points (0.02%) to 5.87% and 5.71% respectively. Although July producer prices were flat as expected, retail sales jumped 0.7%.

Stock prices climbed on Friday as the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 119.04 points to close at 11,027.80. The Nasdaq composite posted a 29.48 point gain to 3,789.47.
