Program Focuses on Residential Construction Superintendent Training - 12/20/2004 - Multifamily Landlord Tenant Commercial Buildings

Builders’ Show Program Focuses on Residential Construction Superintendent Training

Those attending this year’s International Builders’ Show in Orlando will have the opportunity to learn how the Home Builders Institute's (HBI) Residential Construction Superintendent (RCS) designation has helped companies save time and money, increase profits, generate repeat customers and more.

Panelists at HBI’s educational program, “The Making of a Super Superintendent,” have been involved in administering the program around the country. They include: Paul Thompson, executive vice president of the Florida Home Builders Association; Beth McGee, executive officer of the Home Builders Association of Metro Orlando; Paul Mashburn, president, of Viking Builders and an RCS instructor and; Marylee Putnam, education manager, Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association.

The seminar is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 15, 9:00-10:00 a.m. in Room 300 of the Orange County Convention Center.

Launched in January of 2003, the RCS designation is geared to future field superintendents and current construction site personnel who want to sharpen their skills. The designation’s eight, four-hour courses are offered through home builders associations and cover issues and subjects identified by NAHB members as critical to a field supervisory job.

Nearly 3,500 industry professionals have received RCS training in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada and North Carolina.

In an effort to further promote the success of the RCS program, the National Housing Endowment has awarded HBI, the workforce development arm of NAHB, a grant to help develop the next tract of advanced-level superintendent training. Work on these courses is underway, with an anticipated rollout in mid-2005.
