| DENVER -- Protecto Wrap Company, the leader in waterproofing systems, has improved the BT20 XL sealing tape for window and door perimeters by providing builders with a longer exposure time. BT20 XL is the only window perimeter building tape that can be installed and left exposed for 180 days without any UV degradation. “By increasing the UV protection from 120 to 180 days, contractors have more leeway in the construction schedule,” says John Hopkins, CEO for Protecto Wrap. “It provides builders with security and piece of mind knowing that the product can be left uncovered for up to six months.” BT20 XL is a durable 20-mil polyethylene-backed rubberized adhesive tape that creates an airtight vapor seal, eliminating the need to caulk around windows during installation. The self-adhering product seals window perimeters to building substrates, creating an impenetrable, waterproof and energy-efficient barrier. “Its ability to lockout moisture also assists in preventing the growth of black mold,” adds Hopkins. As a peel and stick membrane, BT20 XL is easy to install. The sealing tape adheres to vinyl, plywood, OSB, concrete, metal, aluminum, polyethylene, building wrap products, and block and masonry surfaces to form an air and vapor moisture barrier system. BT20 XL also seals itself around nails, screws, and staples. BT20 XL is ideal for sealing window and door perimeters, joints in stucco insulation systems, sheet rock joints in roof assemblies and joints on gypsum sheathing in cavity wall construction. It can also be used beneath metal cap flashings, as an entire air/vapor barrier in buildings and in other areas where a water- or air-seal is required.
