Self-Contained Heat Pump/Air Handler Heating and cooling in a single, compact unit The self-contained heat pump/air handler features heating and cooling in a single, compact unit. Designed for manufactured homes, this dual-function unit can be installed at the factory, eliminates additional site work, saves space, and can be mortgage financed--all factors that cut costs. Also suitable for conventional site-built homes, the Insider unit is available in a variety of performance capacities and both upflow and downflow versions. The Insider heat pump eliminates the need for split HVAC systems. All components for heating and cooling are housed in a single cabinet similar in size to a standard furnace. The self-contained unit can be installed during factory-built home assembly, eliminating the need for an outdoor condensing unit. The Insider is available in several sizes with cooling capacities from 1-1/2 to 3 tons and 10 to 15 kw heating sizes. An auxiliary electric heater is included for severe weather. The Insider heat pump is available as a downflow unit for manufactured homes, which generally have floor ducting and registers. A new upflow version can serve overhead ducted structures. The upflow unit is ideal for multifamily housing and densely-built areas where large numbers of outdoor units can be noisy and unsightly. Exhaust and air exchange for the unit's condenser is ducted to the exterior. The indoor system is safe from vandalism, weathering, and theft. The indoor unit is also easier to service and maintain. Generating 61 decibels, noise and vibration from the unit's internal compressor might be excessive.

Higher first-cost than a standard furnace, but less costly than a furnace with an air conditioning coil and condensing unit. The enclosed unit eases maintenance, reduces thermal losses, and eliminates piping/wire penetrations through the envelope. Manufactured housing is usually built and delivered without a condensing unit; the homeowner must purchase one and pay for site installation. Since the Insider heat pump is factory-installed, it can be financed with a home mortgage. |
