Senate Confirmation of Jackson as HUD Secretary Applauded Senate confirmation last week of Alphonso Jackson as secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development received a positive response from the nation’s home builders. “In the months that he has been running HUD, Alphonso Jackson has already demonstrated an outstanding commitment to overseeing the nation’s housing policies,” said NAHB President Bobby Rayburn. “We congratulate him now that the Senate has formally confirmed his nomination to the Cabinet post.” Rayburn added that NAHB is looking forward to working with Jackson and his agency “to address the many challenges and opportunities that face our industry, such as the growing workforce housing issue, the continuation of RESPA reform and helping President Bush to achieve his goal of 5.5 million new minority home owners by the end of the decade.” Jackson has served as the acting HUD secretary since Dec. 12, when Secretary Mel Martinez stepped down from the post to run for the open Senate seat in Florida. |
