Solomon Named Seniors Housing Council Chair - 2/23/2004 - Real Estate Education Training Schools Conferences

Solomon Named Seniors Housing Council Chair

Bonnie Solomon, vice president of retirement living services for Delmar Gardens Enterprises in St. Louis, was installed as 2004 chair of the NAHB Seniors Housing Council during the 2004 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas last month. She previously served as council chair in 1992.

Randy Rinehart, president of Rinehart Homes and a custom builder from Charlottesville, VA, is the council’s vice chair. L. Earl Armiger, president of Orchard Development Corporation and a multifamily developer from Ellicott City, MD, is the immediate past chair.

Solomon supervises the management operations for Delmar Gardens retirement communities in St. Louis, Atlanta and Kansas City. She also serves as executive director of Garden Villas Retirement Apartments in St. Louis.

A recognized leader in the multifamily and seniors housing industries, Solomon has served multiple terms as vice president/multifamily for the St. Louis Home Builders Association, president of the Community Housing Management Corporation, president of the Mid-East Area Agency on Aging Board and housing chair of the Jewish Federation Commission on Aging. She also is a past president of the Town and Country Chamber of Commerce, where she was named Business Person of the Year. Solomon has been involved with the Seniors Housing Council since its inception.

“During the past 20 years, it’s been my pleasure to be part of the growth and development of the Seniors Housing Council,” Solomon said. “Since my first term, I can truly say we’ve come a long way.”

The council provides NAHB members involved in the 50+ seniors housing industry with information, education, networking and opportunities for recognition. The council sponsors a nationally recognized conference, Building for Boomers & Beyond: Seniors Housing Symposium, and continues to expand its education offerings.

Two of Solomon’s goals for 2004 include increasing the number of seniors housing education programs offered at the International Builders’ Show and to continue to expand the council’s membership base.

“We’ve added four new local Seniors Housing Councils over the past year, and we will explore opportunities for other new local councils and to grow our ranks,” Solomon said. “We also will try to broaden our existing programs and services and continue to build value into them.”

Solomon is a national life director of NAHB, past chairman and life governor of NAHB’s Registered Apartment Managers Board of Governors, and chair of the B’nai B’rith National Seniors Housing Board.

A seniors housing professional for more than 30 years, Solomon has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Registered Apartment Manager of the Year and Seniors Housing Professional of the Year from NAHB.
