St. Clair, Michigan First-Time Buyers Brave The Chill by Blanche Evans
Despite winter's chill, Realtors in St. Clair County report that first-time buyers, in particular, are coming out to take advantage of record-low interest rates. "The local real estate market has recently undergone changes," says Realtor Jill Oprinski, slowing down from the feverish pace earlier this year. Aggressive marketing is a must, and sellers need to remember that buyers have more to choose from, thus property condition and terms are important in addition to price. There are some well-priced, "good-condition" homes that attract multiple offers." But, says Realtor Alice W. Baetz, activity levels in house sales continue to pick up largely due to the still very attractive interest rates. "First-time homebuyers continue to be active," says Baetz. "Those homes which are appropriately priced and "buyer ready" should see more showings and consequently shorter listing times." Advises Realtor Gary Severn, "There were 812 homes that sold in St. Clair Shores in the past year, down slightly from the numbers in the previous 365 days. Presently we have a "buyer's market" in St. Clair Shores --- 293 single family homes are available as of this date. This represents approximately a four and third month supply. The interest rates are still very good and as always, homes in good showing condition and that are well priced are in strong demand." "St. Clair Shores is conveniently located close to all major interstate highways," suggests Realtor Sal Zerillo. "A bedroom community on Lake St. Clair, and the boating capital of the United States, St. Clair Shores has three excellent schools districts, private residence parks with swimming pool, water slide, children's water park and marinas. St.Clair Shores has a great seniors' center and two ice hockey rinks. It is a city to consider." |
