Structural Insulated Panels Stand Up to Hurricane Force in ‘So Small Showhouse’  The “So Small Showhouse” at the upcoming International Builders’ Show in Orlando, FL., is being built to withstand Category 5 hurricane winds. The home is being presented by the Structural Insulated Panel Association to demonstrate how SIPs can be used to create structures that will hold up to punishing weather conditions such as those that battered Florida three times in this year’s unusually harsh hurricane season. Technical support for the project is coming from Premier Building Systems, and USP Connectors — a member of the panel association — is providing a full array of specialty tie-downs, connectors and fasteners, along with a downloadable PDF handbook with clear instructions for specifying and installing the hardware. The house was designed by architect Sarah Susanka, who is the author of "The Not So Big House” designs. |
