The National Association of Realtors began preparations last week for the 2002 American Home Week celebration by announcing the theme—“Get Ready. Get Set. Grow!”—and providing promotional materials to its 1,700 state and local associations.
American Home week, to be celebrated April 7-13 this year, will highlight the Realtor organization’s vigorous initiative to promote affordable housing opportunities for everyone in every section of every community. To ensure that Realtors are involved in this important initiative and celebration, an American Home Week kit was sent to association executives in mind-March. The kit provides specific information to assist state and local associations in gaining attention from local media and support from community groups for their efforts in honor of American Home Week.
"The housing opportunity crisis is one that is well established and fed by an area’s economic, demographic and regulatory characteristics. Most disheartening is the fact that this is an issue that will not go away on its own. Without reasonable housing opportunities families are stressed to the breaking point, neighborhoods decline, jobs go unfilled and the quality of life suffers for all of us," NAR President Martin Edwards Jr. said. "As Realtors, we are in the unique position to be the best advocates and educators for, and promoters of, real solutions to today’s critical housing needs. Celebrating American Home Week, Realtors can be the catalyst for change by making a commitment to address these issues—a commitment that makes good business sense and ensures protection for each of our stakes in tomorrow.”
In addition, the kit provides a listing of NAR's housing opportunities resources and Web sites to browse for more information; sample American Home Week press release and column for distribution to local media; and a promotional poster to hang in offices. To further the American Home Week theme of “Get Ready. Get Set. Grow!” the symbolic seeds of change will be planted through a "plantable" bookmark as one of many giveaways that may be purchased and distributed to members, clients, prospects, and others to promote American Home Week. The kit also includes an update on "Within These Walls…," NAR's exclusive partnership with the Smithsonian Institution that symbolizes Realtors’ commitment to housing opportunities and homeownership for everyone.
NAR encourages Realtors and community members to lend their support to American Home Week, and become involved in creating or developing better housing opportunities for everyone.
