Estate and resort communities are being enthusiastically promoted by local Realtors as ideal communities to consider.

Lake Oconee

"The resort golf communities on Lake Oconee, the second largest lake in Georgia, offer golf, boating, tennis, equestrian activities, and more," says Realtor Richard Cobb ( Plumbing System illustrated construction plans ).

"The Lake Oconee area includes the counties of Greene, Putnam and Morgan counties," explains Cobb. "The lake contains 19,000 acres and 354 miles of shoreline. Homes and homesites are available in all price ranges. However, homes on the lake are extremely upscale and range from $350,000 to in excess of $1,000,000. There are lake building sites that range from $200,000 to over $1,000,000. The lake area has five major golf/resort communities that are gated, a new Ritz Carlton Hotel and the world renowned Reynolds Plantation. Reynolds Plantation has five championship golf courses, with many holes running along the lake. At Lake Oconee, life is good! Over 370 homes have sold during 2002. Selling prices are being negotiated, but prices remain stable at present."

Tybee Island

"Tybee Island is a Barrier island just a few miles from Savannah," describes Realtor Betty Lou Futrell . "It has over five miles of sandy beaches and lots of local color and character."

"Ready for your beach home for retirement, investment, vacation?" says Futrell, "then Tybee Island just might be the one for you. Enjoy all the color, entertainment and historic interest of the island, with 250 years of modern American history. The Atlantic Ocean barrier island has been a favorite seaside retreat since wagon trains pushed across from the mainland. Deep-sea, surf or pier fishing. Visit historic 1733 Tybee Lighthouse, Fort Screven and much more! All this and just an easy drive to historic Savannah."

Druid Hills

"Druid Hills is without a doubt one of the most prestigious areas in which to live," says Realtor Cathy Wilson . "Its beautiful linear parks designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, the landscape architect of Central Park, NY, still remain almost a century later. Canopied streets with the most gorgeously colored azaleas in the spring here in Atlanta are sights to behold! One of the streets in Druid Hills, Lullwater Road, is now famous for having been filmed during "Driving Miss Daisy."

"Most of the homes are older, but stately, and their addresses are highly desirable places to call home," she says. "The excitement of the city of Atlanta is but a few minutes away where fine dining establishments, night life, the arts and theatre await you.

Since July 4, 2002, the real estate market has shown a definite improvement," advises Wilson. "A large amount of re-sale inventory is still on the market and prices appear to be steady, and in some instances have dropped, but not significantly. With interest rates being the lowest in over two decades, and a good supply of inventory, this is an excellent time to find your home."
