0312 Lateral Support for Masonry Walls - Floors - Joists -

Image Text: Cross section > Joists perpendicular to wall > flooring > floor joist > 12 inches to 18 inches > metal anchor strap (typically 1.25 inch wide by 3/16 inch thick) embedded in mortar > can be attached to bottom or side of joist > usually every 4th joist is strapped > Joists parallel to wall > Note: strapping of the floor joists to the wall is usually only required at floor levels ABOVE the first floor > floor joist > flooring > solid blocking between the joists is desirable at anchor locations > metal anchor strap (typically 1.25 inch wide by 3/16 inch thick) embedded in mortar > can be attached to bottom or top of joists > strap should extend across 3 or 4 joists > straps are usually installed at 4 feet to 8 feet intervals along the wall
